Integrative Medicine & The Mind Body Connection
Integrative medicine is an approach that puts the patient at the centre and addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that affect a person’s health. Employing a personalized strategy that considers the patient’s unique conditions, needs and circumstances, it uses the most appropriate interventions from an array of scientific disciplines to heal illness and disease and help people regain and maintain optimum health.
Dr. Pawa was one of the pioneers in Vancouver, BC in Integrative Medicine with her focus being on the profound mind/body connection. She honed her skills with a primary interest on restoring health and wellness across a person’s lifespan. Understanding the full complexity of the interplay of brain, behaviour, and environment which influence biology of the body. These biological changes are what results in symptoms that a patient experiences. By creating awareness and understanding, integrative medicine goes beyond the treatment of symptoms to address all the causes of an illness. In doing so, the patient’s immediate health needs as well as the effects of the long-term implications of inflammation are mitigated and eventually health replaces disease.
